The pet that I finally decided to buy is An African Grey parrot. Previously I had just been a cat and dog lover and owning a bird never occurred to me. That was until I watched my friend together with her parrot. I was amazed that a bird could display so much affection towards a human being. The way the bird spoke, the means it flew to sit on my friend’s shoulder, the expressions on its face. All of these actions just totally amazed me and thoughts I had about owning a cat or a dog were falling by the wayside. I spent a lot of time with my friends bird and all the misconceptions I had about birds disappeared.
Watching my friend with her pet bird made me realize that owning a bird as a pet was a better option for me than owning a cat or dog. Straight away I went home to look more into owning a bird as a pet.
I found lots of information was readily available to me. How to tame a bird, birds characteristics, what it means when they do
I did however discover another website called Buy Sell Birds. This site had breeders and private sellers from all counties in the UK. People had been able to place their ad for free and there was categories for lots of birds including canaries and budgies. Immediately I headed off to the section displaying African Grey Parrots for sale.
I browsed through lots of of the adverts however one of them stood out. It was about an African Grey parrot that was described as being funny, cute and excellent with children. The seller was displaying their telephone number and within minutes I was chatting with them. I received more pictures of the bird via email, and finally made a decision a couple of days later. This bird was going to be the newest member of our family. The seller lived at the opposite side of the UK to me; however the site Buy Sell Birds recommended an excellent courier who transported my new bird to me, safe and sound.
Today, the family adores our new African Grey parrot called Rosie. Everyday she speaks new words that she has picked up from us. She also loves to sit there and entertain us all.

Interesting Dog Facts
By Rita Williamz
Dogs may not be men’s best friend but it is the most loyal. Fiercely loyal in fact that it is capable of self-sacrifice if its owners are in danger and the need according to its interpretation exists.
They do not possess the intelligence that we would often believe that they have in fact their brains are 10% smaller than that of wolves, but they are attentive or on many occasions pretend to comprehend. With the comprehension comes the obedience. Dogs unlike other animals do not have the capability to premeditate its actions to solve a problem or a situation although it learns by constant observation and repetitive instructions and examples. Whatever they lack in intelligence, they compensate with unquestioning obedience and love or at least, the semblance of it.
The loyalty that dogs show is a trait that they have while still in the wild where they have to learn to stick together and take care of its other to survive longer. Human sees this devotion and treats dogs as family members. Dogs on the other hand see humans as pack leaders although members of their pack nonetheless. Men therefore have to be obeyed and would need as much cooperation from the dog similar to how the dog will respond to a pack leader in the wild.
In spite of all these, dogs are predators. They have always been and even behind centuries of domestication, they have not totally lost the instinct. They respect hierarchy. This is why dogs need training because when left to themselves, they would start believing that they are the alpha males and superior to their owners. Behind these, they would always be ready to obey and transfer their imagined superiority when there is firm and gentle guidance, with a whine maybe but never a complaint.
Dogs are generally believed to have descended from wolves, hence the similarity. In antiquity, dogs that are near human settlements eat human refuse that resulted in shorter fangs, limp ears and smaller brains compared to wolves because these attributes are not being used anymore and has become unnecessary. Another dog trait not found in wolves is tails that curl upwards and paws that are half the size of those that wolves have.
Dogs with long noses (like hounds) have excellent field visions that are wide although not as detailed, on the other hand, dogs with shorter noses as with Pugs sees better details although with a narrower perspective.
Dogs may have floppy ears but they hear sounds four times better than humans and with eighteen muscles to move them around they could detect the source of the sound more accurately. Dogs with more natural looking ears could hear and detect sounds much better.
Humans may have five million smell sensitive cells enough to make scent detection and scent identification efficient but dogs have 220 million cells in their nose cavities.
Mans love affair with dogs goes a very long way that today; there are more breed of dogs than any other animal species on earth.

All About Shih-Tzu Dogs And Why They Are So Popular
Shih-Tzu is one of the most ancient dog breeds. It is a breed of dog that is small and has long silky fur. It has droopy ears that are covered by fur. This breed of dog has large eyes that are dark and a short muzzle. The body of a Shih-Tzu is longer than its height and one of its most significant features is its underbite. The tail of the dog is also covered in hair and the hair carries on all over its back. The legs are muscular and straight and the back is levelled. It has a double coat which comes in various colours.
The height of a Shih-Tzu dog is no more than 11 inches or 28 cm. It weighs anywhere between 9-16 pounds which is around 4-7kg.
Shih-Tzu dogs are happy, alert and active dogs. It is a friendly dog and responds to training easily. These dogs are sweet and playful and find themselves at ease in the company of other pets. They sometimes display characteristics of being devotional. They are also courageous and learn things easily. However, if they are allowed to take over, then they may develop arrogance and become snappy. Therefore, care must be taken while training them regarding the rules to be followed.
The Shih Tzu dog loves to eat. Keeping their bowls filled with food is a bad idea as they will eat until the food is gone. I recommend setting a schedule for food for these little guys. Being over weight for this breed can cause major health issues. Show your Shih Tzu puppy a lot of love and security as to me they are the warmest dogs to cuddle with. Give small pieces of treats when it does the right thing.
This breed of dog is also prone to certain health problems. Having ear infections and loosing teeth easily are some of the common problems that they suffer from. They might also have a disease of the spinal disc since their back is long and the legs are short. They also have a tendency to gain weight easily. The average life expectancy of a Shih-Tzu dog is 15 years.
Shih-Tzu dogs are very sensitive to heat and hence very active indoors. It is therefore advisable that they be kept mostly indoors when the temperatures are high. However, these dogs should be taken for daily walks. This helps them not to develop any behavioural problems.
Overall the Shih Tzu is a beautiful dog. They are easy to maintain and great with children. They show well and are true lap dogs. As long as you show them love and security you will feel like you have a new baby at home.
