Making the decision to take on a bird as a pet is a big one. There are many responsibilities that come with being a bird owner and it is important to make certain you can live up to the expectations that it will need. At the same time, owning a bird can bring a lot of joy and fun.

The pet that I finally decided to buy is An African Grey parrot. Previously I had just been a cat and dog lover and owning a bird never occurred to me. That was until I watched my friend together with her parrot. I was amazed that a bird could show so much affection towards a human being. The way the bird spoke, the way it flew to sit on my friend’s shoulder, the expressions on its face. All of these actions just totally amazed me and thoughts I had about owning a cat or a dog were falling by the wayside. I spent many time with my friends bird and all the misconceptions I had about birds disappeared.

Watching my friend with her pet bird made me realize that owning a bird as a pet was a better option for me than owning a cat or dog. Straight away I went home to look more into owning a bird as a pet.

The world wide web gave me lots of advice and information. I was able to learn how to train a bird, signs to recognize to discover out if they are happy, sick or sad. I also found out how to teach them to speak and what a bird will expect from me as its owner. The internet also revealed to me that there was no pet shop in my town selling birds and I could not find a breeder in my town either.

I decided to broaden my search for a breeder and straight away ended up on a website called Buy Sell Birds. This website listed breeders and private sellers from all over the UK. The breeders and sellers could place their ad for free as well as their telephone number. There were lots of sections of birds for sale IE canaries, budgerigars and just what I was looking for. African Grey parrots.

The first advert caught my eye straight away. It was an eight year old African Grey Parrot and the telephone number of the retailer was shown and I picked up the phone desperate to find out more. Within half an hour, I had received an email with lots of more pictures and descriptions of the bird. My mind was made up and I was going to buy my perfect pet. The seller did not live in my town and the website Buy Sell Birds was able to recommend a bird courier.

Today, the family adores our new African Grey parrot called Rosie. Everyday she speaks new words that she has picked up from us. She also loves to sit there and entertain us all.

If you are thinking of a pet then a quite good choice would be a bird. Be sure to take a look at Buy Sell Birds and I promise you will find a loving bird that will become the apple of your eye.

Sleep With Your Pet - Is It Healthy?

By womanmagz

For most people a pet is considered to be an important member of the family. So that many pet owner sleep together with their adorable pets. According to a recent survey of pet owners by the American Pet Products Association, nearly half of dogs sleep in their owner’s beds. The survey found that 62% of small dogs, 41% of medium-sized dogs and 32% of large dogs sleep with their owners.

The survey also found that 62% of cats sleep with their adult owners, and another 13% of cats sleep with children.

But is it healthy to sleep with our pets? People who suffer from allergies or asthma should not sleep with their pets, or have them anywhere in their bedroom for that matter. However, upon discovering that their pets are causing allergic reactions, many pet lovers will still refuse to kick their pet out of their bed. They will either suffer with the symptoms or endure allergy shots to try to compensate for their decisions.

According to the Mayo Clinic’s sleep disorders clinic, a pet can cause sleep disorders. Nearly half of the patients who come to the clinic is a dog or cat owner and 53 percent said their cats or dogs disturb their sleep.

“There are insomnia patients who had undergone various examinations to determine the cause. It turned out that the cause is because the pet dog is always scratching all night,” said Lisa Shives, MD, medical director of the sleep disorders center.

But what about sex? The whole notion of whether or not to be intimate with a pet in the bedroom is different for every couple. Some are very creative with how they handle it. Some will put the pet outside the room during the time of their intimacy. Others will distract the pet with its favorite treat. Others simply don’t care and ignore the pet while they are involved with their love partner.

However this has to be completely worked out between the love partners. If one of the partners is uncomfortable or objects to the audience during sex, an agreement must be reached.

It is also very important that the cat or dog does not physically come between the human couple. That intimacy of snuggling and cuddling is all important, actually more important than the actual sex, and should not be disturbed by an animal.

Well, if you think that you do not suffer from allergies and you get sleeping well, and your sexual partner agree with your decision as to whether your pet Should be in or out of the bedroom, so there is not one thing wrong you get sleeping with your pet.

Interesting Dog Facts

By Rita Williamz

Dogs may not be men’s best friend but it is the most loyal. Fiercely loyal in fact that it is capable of self-sacrifice if its owners are in danger and the need according to its interpretation exists.

They do not possess the intelligence that we would often believe that they have in fact their brains are 10% smaller than that of wolves, but they are attentive or on many occasions pretend to comprehend. With the comprehension comes the obedience. Dogs unlike other animals do not have the capability to premeditate its actions to solve a problem or a situation although it learns by constant observation and repetitive instructions and examples. Whatever they lack in intelligence, they compensate with unquestioning obedience and love or at least, the semblance of it.

The loyalty that dogs show is a trait that they have while still in the wild where they have to learn to stick together and take care of its other to survive longer. Human sees this devotion and treats dogs as family members. Dogs on the other hand see humans as pack leaders although members of their pack nonetheless. Men therefore have to be obeyed and would need as much cooperation from the dog similar to how the dog will respond to a pack leader in the wild.

In spite of all these, dogs are predators. They have always been and even behind centuries of domestication, they have not totally lost the instinct. They respect hierarchy. This is why dogs need training because when left to themselves, they would start believing that they are the alpha males and superior to their owners. Behind these, they would always be ready to obey and transfer their imagined superiority when there is firm and gentle guidance, with a whine maybe but never a complaint.

Dogs are generally believed to have descended from wolves, hence the similarity. In antiquity, dogs that are near human settlements eat human refuse that resulted in shorter fangs, limp ears and smaller brains compared to wolves because these attributes are not being used anymore and has become unnecessary. Another dog trait not found in wolves is tails that curl upwards and paws that are half the size of those that wolves have.

Dogs with long noses (like hounds) have excellent field visions that are wide although not as detailed, on the other hand, dogs with shorter noses as with Pugs sees better details although with a narrower perspective.

Dogs may have floppy ears but they hear sounds four times better than humans and with eighteen muscles to move them around they could detect the source of the sound more accurately. Dogs with more natural looking ears could hear and detect sounds much better.

Humans may have five million smell sensitive cells enough to make scent detection and scent identification efficient but dogs have 220 million cells in their nose cavities.

Mans love affair with dogs goes a very long way that today; there are more breed of dogs than any other animal species on earth.
